Choked till bleed

I must say this school holiday, I mean medschool holiday, had been such an experience to me. Yesterday, after running errands here and there, I basically made a simple lunch of ikan goreng berlada and my friend made pajeri nenas. It was our usual Saturday. Chilling and relaxing, waiting to have lunch together.

We put all the lauk pauk on the tikar, as if it were at some park, and we were about to have a picnic. The steamed rice smelled lovely and tempting, hot and juicy. It was basmathi, so yeah, it was luxury. No greens were about to be our meal, but what ever, we had been vegetarian for many days before had the chance to buy meat and fish.

We sat down, recite the prayer, thanking Allah for the lunch. We were hungry and quickly grabbed the fish and the pineapple. Such simple dish, such delightful taste. It was okay, we were chatting and enjoying the breeze while eating, the breeze of thin wind that came from the big window I have here in the new hostel.

Suddenly, I felt something cling on my throat. Crap, I knew it. It must be bloody mackerel's bone. I should have separate the bone, but like always, when hunger strike, nothing else is important. I ignored the throat because the pain was still mild and bearable. I continue eating and chatting, till I can no longer swallow. Dysphagia!

"Hazirah, I am choking!!!" I exclaimed
"Oh, Quick, make a bolus out of the rice and swallow it all through!" my friend commanded

Pathetically, I wasn't good at making rice ball because my lunch partner told me to use my palms. I was like what!? I never made such big bolus of rice before, what else to swallow such thing. Basically, I was stubborn.

I tried to make smaller bolus of rice. That's the only way, the easiest way if one would choked on fish bone. After several small bolus of rice, my esophagus is overloaded. Thank God, the bathroom was near, so I ran inside and puke.

Who won't be surprised if he or she saw blood, fresh red blood came out from the mouth. Even a slight spit was full of blood.

"Hazirah, I vomit blood!!"

My friend cum lunch partner, who was still eating, stop at an instance. She was shocked. She still ask me to swallow some more bolus of rice. I just couldn't. Too overloaded. I keep wanting to puke. She on the other hand, made her way to our neighbours, asking for help.

Farah our neighbour said, banana would help. Apparently, earlier in the morning, I already made the cekodok pisang batter with all the bananas I had. My friend went upstairs. Saw kak syira, and mentioned that I had vomit blood.

"Go to EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT THEN!!"she yelled.

While my friend still continue her attempt, asking here and there for banana, I was to and fro, from the bathroom and to the living room where we had our lunch. This time I made once more a bolus of rice. Swallow it, trying hard to swallow it.

I put my finger inside till it touched the throat. As if I was making my own minor surgery to pull the bone out. I remembered one episode in grey's anatomy whereby one patient swallowed a bunched of keys, and they had to use some robot device to pull the keys out. I was thinking to have the same procedure too. Too much imagination once you were panicked. But it was all vain. All I feel was an urge to puke. And yes this time a major PUKE.

Blood, fresh and red mixed together with chyme landed in the toilet bowl. Guess what??

I saw the bloody, mackerel's bone together with it. And yes, nothing was felt clinging to my throat. I am alive !!

But it was still hurt, my esophagus must have swelled somehow and inflammed. I felt hard to speak for some time. I tried to call out for Hazirah. Then I saw her coming, I told her I am okay.

She breathed deep in relieved. I smiled. And all she could say was: "See! I told you to bolus of rice would work!"

A lesson-on Life Saving

First Aid block is gonna emerge next week. A block which I am eagerly want to learn since it's a basic knowledge that all future-wannabe doctors should know and then apply upon stepping into the clinical field.

Our deputy dean, Prof KJ, who is a super-doctor to me, has this abundant of experience and knowledge that he would like to share with us. So yesterday, he was kind enough to give a lecture on the Do's and Don'ts in Disaster.

The class started as early as 8 am. But, at JNMC the class is earlier, so we shouldn't complain. And yesterday, I woke up early alhamdulillah. A great thanks to mama usrah who kindly came to my room and woke me up. I was ready to go at around 7.30 am. I went to the canteen and I was so delighted with the Puri breakfast; which is my most favorite Indian breakfast of all time.

Bus wasn't there on the foyer to send us to the campus. I didn't pay much attention for the absence of bus since I usually walked to class. To make things complicated, the shortcut which we used often that is walking down the JNMC aisle cannot be used since a big hole is being dig. Thus, all of us need to use the long way, which is literally far.

Walking like a thunder rather than running as baju kurung inhibits us from doing so, we managed to arrive at 8.12 am. I saw many other collegemates outside the classroom and I was happy that I thought the class haven't started yet. To my surprise, it was a surprise that Prof KJ let Ryan to lock the door and not permitting us to enter.

Everyone looked so down. Some of them was fasting, and they came running. Some of them mistakenly took the shortcut, but needed to climb the gate to cross over as they wanna go to Prof KJ's lecture. What an agony when 2 minutes late was consider as our fault.

But to reflect, yes it was our fault. Now that I know the bus driver wasn't the one to be blamed as he wasn't being informed about the 8 am class. Other friends managed to arrived early because they were more cautious, and so they left the hostel earlier. Merely, those who were 2 minutes late, were just being careless and thought that the kind fatherly Prof KJ would be as fatherly when it comes to attending his lecture.

And so yeah, the other 40++ students weren't able to get into the class, and so they sat outside, on the corridor. Some of us were very sad and disappointed. He showed to the rest of 20 students in the class about his experience in Afghanistan and such. It was tearful that we couldn't join.

As the class ended, he exited the lecture hall and wanted us to write a letter why were we late. It was like an avalanche falling to our head. Of course pin pointing on blaming others is certainly something a wannabe doctor should not do.

Prof KJ merely did that as to teach us a lesson on punctuality. As in emergency, a doctor couldn't blame time that runs too fast that he might kill a patient. He should rather blame himself of not being punctual. A patient could die any minute if a treatment could not be done because a doctor was actually late. This gives a lot of self-threaten moment in myself.

I usually early to attend lectures. Allah has definitely want me to be more responsible and be punctual everyday. I guess everyone feels the same too...

And here one quote:

So you think Swallowing is easy

Alright guys, I am bored actually. But at least, a quality time with guyton was finally attempted: YEY! I am now in Gastrointestinal Block, a week more to go to finish this block off. Then comes First Aid Block then 3rd Selanjar. How tempting huh?

Okay, today I am gonna do some teaching. Do you mind? Sorry for being a nerd by posting nerdy stuff, but I just feel dang bored.

Today you gonna learn the swallowing stage. All of you knows eating. I bet most of you are munching or eating something while reading this. Nak sikit boleh? * OK gila dah* . So if you know how to eat, do you know that your swallowing process is one of the most complicated thing that happened in your body? But why? Telan mecam senang je kan? Think again then!

In the world of medicine, we called it DEGLUTITION. Of course, it sounded complicated now...but wait! There's more.

I said swallowing is complicated. But why? Well this is merely because there's 4 tracks that must be opened or closed so that food will passed safe and sound to the esophagus. It looks like a round about where you guys find everyday while driving on the roads. You have nasopharynx on the top and trachea below. Then your food must directly passed from the oral cavity to esophagus. There are various mechanisms of our anatomical feature of the oral cavity and the neck region; for the correct passage of food in term of bolus.

As you can see in the above diagram I drew, that is the pharyngeal stage. But, humans have another stage called the voluntary stage. This stage merely initiates swallowing; where we voluntarily squeezed or rolled the food posteriorly to the pharynx by pressure of the tongue against palate.

Okay, now entering the pharynx, food stimulates epithelial swallowing receptor areas around opening of the pharynx. Impulses then pass to the brain stem for the start of automatic pharyngeal muscle contractions.

1. Food must not goes into our nose. Thus, soft palate is pulled upward to close the posterior nares.

2. There's folds at the pharynx called palatopharyngeal folds on each side of the pharynx: they are pulled medially forming a small slit. This enabled only MASTICATED or small-chewed food to enter.

3. Food must not fall or enter the laryngeal inlet. Thus, the vocal cords are strongly approximated. Larynx is pulled upward and anteriorly by neck muscles. Combined with ligaments that prevent the epiglottis to move upward: cause the epiglottis to swing backward over the laryngeal inlet. These prevent food from entering into nose and the trachea. (Trachea is continuous with the laryngeal inlet).

4. As larynx is pulled upward, opening for esophagus is enlarged. Here, the upper esophageal sphincter relaxes. This helps food bolus to move easily and freely into upper esophagus. Between swallows, this sphincter remains contracted to prevent air from going into esophagus during respiration.

So the summary people:

Trachea is closed - esophagus is opened - a fast peristaltic wave initiated by nervous system of the pharynx forces the bolus into upper esophagus: the entire swallowing process takes 2 seconds only. How magnificent!

Insidious T.T

After so many months, I finally could watch this 'Ever Wanting To Watch Horror Movie'. Insidious is not just any horror movie, and it is just 100 times better than any local hantu pocong or pontianak and sorts.

Insidious is also a new word which I must add into my vocabulary. It is defined as : harmful or proceeding in a dangerous way. And as the story goes, it certainly INSIDIOUSLY FRIGHTEN THE HECK OUT OF ME.

The movie was smooth. It revolves around a family of five, who just moved in into a beautiful house. In the family, there're 3 little kids, and the eldest would be the one who is on focus. He is Dalton. A very cute little boy who loves discovering things in his new home. While his mom and dad were both busy with their own things, he would went to the attic and play like any other kids of the same age.

One fine day, Dalton who was playing in the attic saw something strange and thus tried to catch the thing. He climbed on this wood ladder and it broke. Dalton fell and knocked his forehead. He then cried for his mommy and daddy who was downstairs. They ran up to get him and he just had a bruises on the forehead, no serious injury. They tucked their son in bed and wished good night.

The next morning, Dalton didn't wake up. His dad, was worried sick. Brought to the hospital whereby doctor diagnosed that he is in coma but bizarrely he has no signs of serious head injury or blood clot or whatsoever. To let him stay in the hospital would be in vain, so he was brought back home.

After that, strange things keep happening. The pity one should be the mother of these kids, who keep listening to voices and whispering. And one night, their little baby daughter cried. The mother saw one entity in black, and she screamed. The father then went downstairs, and found out the door was unlocked.

They moved out again after many scary nights. But the similar things keep happening. The mother would see this 'ghost' hopping around and dancing in their house. Even Dalton's grandmother saw one black entity standing beside Dalton in his room. A satan that have been wanting Dalton's body.

Well, after that we would know what the heck was actually occurring in Dalton's body. There's this kinda of ghost expert called Elise who explained that Dalton was experiencing Astral Projection or in other words, he is sleeping, physically, but spiritually, he is travelling to another dimension, a dimension of the dead. 0.O...

Then came the twist, whereby, the similar thing had also happened in Dalton's father. When he was a child, there's also this ghost who kept appearing in his photos, so since then, Dalton's father would never had photos of himself. He also experienced astral projection and stuff, so his son, Dalton seemed to be inheriting that capability. The only way to save Dalton and bring him back would be sending his own father to travel to that ghost dimension through hypnotize.

And so, yes, Dalton's father or Josh, went to the ghost world, whereby he was actually in his own previous house but with the ancient occupants. They were the dead. He found Dalton in some sort of a dungent, which look like artificial hell. While trying to return to the real world, guided by the voice of his wife, he saw the same ghost that haunted him when he was a child. An old woman in black. He kept telling the ghost to go away and it seemed like he made it, but the end of the story was unexpected.

His soul and Dalton's were successfully returned. Everyone was so happy including me. But, when Elise, the ghost expert saw Josh's hands, she suspected something wrong. It was not Josh's hand, but was pale and wrinkled. She quickly grabbed the paranormal camera, and SNAP. When she looked at the LCD, she knew she was right. It was not Josh, but the old woman ghost. The ghost strangled Elise to death. Josh's wife came to see what had happened as she heard screaming, but she was too late. Elise was dead, and what she saw in front her was not Josh, but the old woman ghost. WAAA...

To feel more scared sensation watch it yourself. Macam cerita kartun je aku nyer review. LOL

>>P/S: what a sad ending and also a very nerve wrecking ending. the dad had to sacrifice for his kid. but still don't know why the ghost of the old woman tried to search for him<<<

Tron Legacy?

I was sweating all over the forehead. My ATM card went missing. Tried searching it in my purse and everywhere but it was nowhere to be found. Ah....how am I gonna go shopping?

Two days before the incident happened, I went to Bank Islam, to ensure whether the allowances for the semester had been transferred into my account or otherwise. And yes, thanks to the KPT, now I have the money in the bank. I took the bank slip out and also the card, then drove off back home.

Yesterday, I noticed the card was missing. And, I was about to go for a shopping spree at Midvalley. Dad sent me to bank Islam, where I had to undergo few procedures to get a new ATM card, and burnt RM20 for that. It took an hour and a half at the bank since the officers did their job like so slow than ever. Luckily my little sister was with me, so I had a witness with me who can sign the document and all. We walked to KTM Kajang, which looked near but actually about 3 km from the bank. I who was wearing my gladiator shoes felt so regret because of the uncomfortable shoes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arrived at Midvalley around 1 p.m. Quickly headed to the little surau, where it was crowded, like always. And, after that, went to Subway, where we decided not to eat, since the queue was so long. We went upstairs to the cineplex, and yes, the queue was long too. T.T. My heart wanted to watch Meet The Little Fockers, because I always think that watching something that can really tickle our funny bones, would worth the money. Then, my sister had a contradict opinion, in which she wanted to watch Tron Legacy. We took about an hour for queuing and the only available seatings for Meet The Little Fockers were at 4.30 p.m and for Tron, were at 4.00 p.m. My sister said, we should go for the earliest airing movie, so yeah Tron Legacy it was. T.T.

It was around 2.40 p.m, when we finally got our tickets. So, I went for my lunch at the foodcourt, where the food tasted like a stick. Not kicking my tastebuds at all but did wasting my RM10. My sister mocked me for eating at the food court, because the price I paid, would be just similar if I ate something cooler, like KFC or MCD? What a luck.

It was rather a tiring day for me. With a sore throat to handle, an uncomfortable shoes to walk in, and a runny nose to hate for, nothing seemed fine. Went to several shops, but found nothing catching the eyes. It was almost 4.00 p.m, so we headed back to the cinema.

We sat at the most annoying seats of all, three rows from the front, so our eyeballs had to stand up causing the eyes to be so much of a sore. The sound was damn loud, that my eardrum was almost damaged. Eating popcorns worsen my sore throat. Coughing added to the dismay. It was nothing but a worst day for an outing.

Tron Legacy, was having too much lights going on. The sounds were so electrified that I got a headache after it ended. After all, it was not a bad movie, but just too complicated for kids. I pitied some children who went there to watch Tron Legacy, I bet they had harsh time trying to understand about the tech stuff going through out the movie.

Basically, the movie was about a man named Kevin Flynn, who runs this tech company, Encom. He had this vision of creating a cyber world named The Grid. He told his son, Sam, that one day when he succeed in building that world, everything would be beautiful, and he would bring Sam with him. One day, Kevin went missing, and drove the company that he runs together with a partner (I forgot this guy's name), to the bottom of non-profitable. His son became the heir of the company, but many of its board of directors, stole his programs and wanting to make profit of their own. Okay, going straight to the point, only after decades later, Sam, went to his father's old office down an arcade, where he was accidentally brought into his father's creation; The GRID.

His father created The Grid together with his clone, named Clu and another man-made human called Tron. There they built programs called ISOs or whatever they called. Clu somehow, became rebellious, and became a traitor. Tron saved Kevin Flynn, and Clu destroyed all the ISO's but failed to destroy one program called Quorra.

Clu governed the Grid after that, and Sam's father lived far away in a mansion where everything is white. Sam who was brought into The Grid, was made to play games, where he had to destroy many other programs using a disk of memory who happened to be like a boomerang. T.T. He succeeded to the final battle, and he was brought to meet Clu. He first thought Clu was his father, but he wasn't. He battled again, and this time with Clu, where he had this stick-like device, which happened can evolved into a big motorbike. They raced, and yeah the movie was more like a video game.

Sam was later saved by Quorra in a cool fast car. He was brought to meet his father, and a family reunion occurred. Then, Sam did everything to destroy Clu, in which till the end of the movie, they fought, with their super cool vehicles. They needed to head for the entrance, so that they could go back to the Earth. At the same time, Clu, happened not to have been killing the programs of ISO's rather making each one of them, as a troop of soldiers to conquer the Earth. Yeah like every villain would do.

By wanting to conquer the world, Clu had to have Kevin Flynn's memory disk. But at the end, only Sam and Quorra who succeeded to go back to Earth. Clu almost caught them, but he failed due to some power made by Kevin. He was then destroyed when he was brought back into Kevin's body. He can only be destroyed by his creator, who was Kevin himself. And, by that the Grid went vanished.

Yeah, the storyline was heavy and somehow irrelevant. But the super CGI's were awesome to the maximum. You would also went asking yourself, what the heck with the title; Tron Legacy? Tron was not really described in the movie, he was just Kevin's comrade after all. Better name it The Grid or Flynn, right?

Whatever, but I went home with a fever and nothing was bought. What a day.

Coke and Ajinamoto

It's a message from the Kuala Lumpur Police Department:

and the equation is as the above photo shows
Cocacola + Ajinamoto = Drowsiness + Excitement in Victims

and also, it has been proven, when the two are mixed together they can be used to rape ladies.

It was a very cheap and easy method to cause drowsiness, and Canny Ong died because of this method.

So girls, if whomever, wanting you to receive a can or a bottle of Coca Cola, please I warn you:

REJECT IT!
